Day 69: Manhandled by Acrobats

September 4th · 3 Comments

We’ve all been to one of those performances where the actors yank some poor unsuspecting schlub out of the audience and poke and prod him so that others may laugh. Today, in the carnival atmosphere of Battery Park, the woeful schlub was me.

I had wandered in for the views of New York Harbor and saw no signage warning me that I was entering a Bermuda Triangle of tourism. In retrospect, the dancing men dressed in Statue of Liberty costumes might have tipped me off.

This acrobatic troupe cued Michael Jackson on their boombox and grabbed me from my parkbench. I was laid on my back on the ground with legs splayed wide, and a muscular whippet of a man positioned himself at the Y, if you know what I mean, and launched into a standing flip, landing bare inches from my manhood. The crowd went wild.

Then I was pulled onto my feet and lined up next to seven munchkins no older than eleven. We crowded together bent forward at the waist, whereupon Whippet Man did a running loop-de-loop over our backs. Evel Knievel, meet Abu Ghraib.

And here I am, reliving it with you on YouTube. There must be something wrong with me.

Glad to know this group is still there and that they haven’t changed their routine since Feb 07
